Since 2019, the vibe is elevation by education. Started by a small team of engineers, environmentalists from Long Beach looking to fight climate change, Greentek Planet took off when the LB Collective Association connected them with farmers who were destroying thousands of pounds of plant stalks after their harvest.
Using the agriculture residues to make compostable plastics and other products, the team at Greentek was accepted into the LA Cleantech Incubator(Cohort 2), aligning with the city’s initiative to reduce single waste plastics.
After substantial product development, GreenTek discovered an outstanding solution to the plastic/paper crisis in the Earthstraw, the first biodegradable straw made from American hemp, the crop our country depended on for rope, paper, and hundreds of other uses before it was lumped in with the psychedelic cannabis plant, its sibling. Founders embraced the future of sustainable plastics.

What are Earthstraws made From?
Earthtensils and Earthstraws are GreenTek Planet’s hemp biopolymer line of 100% petroleum free plastics.
By upcycling the post harvest scraps of hemp farmers, such as the plant stalks that are traditionally burnt or landfilled, and combining the cellulose with a natural, bacteria driven process, bioplastic resin is made that will degrade in a fraction of the time of normal plastics, and requires no petroleum inputs.

How Long Does it Take To Degrade?
GreenTek Planet products are ASTM D6400 and TUV certified compostable, meaning they can degrade in 6 months or less into their natural ingredients, like nitrogen and carbon, due to their natural energy value to the environmental bacteria and fauna that decompose them.
As a result, they don’t leak “forever chemicals” like PFA’s or other toxins and hormones back into the food chain like other plastics. Like to compost at home?

What Are EarthTainers Made from?
To make our molded fiber products, such as our plates, bowls, and takeout “EarthTainers”, we convert upcycled plant stalks into pulp, heat and press them into different shapes, and dip them in an bath of hydrophobic enzymes to give them a strong barrier against moisture and heat.
This ensures more carbon sequestering hemp is grown, reducing climate change; and with No PFA's and no toxic plastic coatings--we deliver sustainable alternative!
